Wales Set for U15 and U17 Clashes Against Northern Ireland
Wales’ U15 and U17 teams will once again face Northern Ireland this summer as the two nations continue to strengthen their competitive ties. The U15 boys and girls will travel to Belfast for fixtures on the 19th and 20th of July, followed by the U17 squads making the same journey on the 2nd and 3rd of August.
Basketball Wales Performance Director Phil Gordos highlighted the significance of these games for player development:
“These fixtures are invaluable for our junior players’ growth and provide our coaches with vital international experience. The relationship with Northern Ireland has been incredibly beneficial, and we’re grateful for their continued hospitality. They always go above and beyond to host a professional and competitive event.”
The games against Northern Ireland will follow hot on the heels of the new-look Home Nations tournaments featuring Wales, England, Ireland and Scotland.
- U14 – 13-15 June | PlaySport, East Kilbride
- U15 – 30 May – 1 June | National Basketball Performance Centre, Manchester
- U17 – 27-29 June | Archers Arena, Cardiff
BW Performance Programme Manager Danny Williams emphasised the value of these additional fixtures against Northern Ireland:
“We are privileged to have the support of another country in a similar position to us to offer a competitive set of fixtures. I hope our groups will use this opportunity to show us their progression over the year.”
