The Biggest GB Masters Ever: Cardiff Breaks the Record

Cardiff is hosting the biggest GB Masters in our history, and our Masters basketball community has never been stronger.

We always said the game never stops. Cardiff is proving it.

A record of over 70 teams from Scotland, Wales, England and Ireland with more than 670 players. Over 50 officials. Together, we have turned the city into the home of Masters basketball. From Over-35s through to Over-60s, men’s and women’s, every court is full and every game is played for the love of it. This is the biggest weekend we have ever put on.

Think about where this began over thirty years ago, GB Masters was a handful of men’s teams. We have grown across the country, through multiple host cities, and Cardiff has now taken us to a whole new level.

The competitive game doesn’t end at 30!

This is the part that matters most to us. Too many players think their competitive days are finished by their late 20s or early 30s. They are wrong, and Cardiff is proving it.

GB Masters gives players of every age a genuine competitive outlet that fits where they are now. Age-specific. Age-relevant. Whether you are 35 or +65, coming back after years away or never having stopped playing, there is a team for you and a game worth turning up for.

We are proud to keep growing the game alongside British Wheelchair Basketball. BWB collaborates the wheelchair basketball side of the tournament, and together we welcome more players and teams onto the court every year. Masters basketball belongs to everyone, and Cardiff is showing exactly what that looks like.

A new name, the same mission

2026 also marks a new era. FIMBA GB Masters is now GB Masters Basketball, with a fresh logo and a sharper look. The identity has changed. The mission has not: to be Great Britain’s home of Masters basketball and to keep players in the game they love.

That is what #TheGameNeverStops means. It is the promise behind everything we do, and over 70 teams in Cardiff is the proof.

None of this happens without you. Thank you to every player, coach and volunteer who made this weekend possible, to our 50-plus officials, to our partners at British Wheelchair Basketball and The Polly Camp, and to Basketball Wales for being a world-class host.
