South Powys Hosts Successful Regional Basketball Tournaments for Year 7-10 Girls
In collaboration with Basketball Wales, South Powys successfully organised two regional basketball tournaments, engaging 180 schoolgirls from the area. The events provided a platform to promote girls’ basketball participation while supporting regional officiating development.
The first tournament, held on Wednesday, 4th December, welcomed 90 girls from Years 7 and 8. Alongside the competition, Basketball Wales delivered a Level 1 Officiating Course to local pupils and two Cardiff Met PGCE student teachers. The trainees completed their officiating qualifications and gained practical experience by officiating games during the tournament.

Ysgol Calon Cymru emerged as the winner in a competitive series of matches. They will now advance to the regional finals at Swansea University on March 4, 2025.
The second tournament, held on 11th December, saw 90 more girls from Years 9 and 10 participate in an exciting day of basketball. Crickhowell High School claimed victory in this event and will also progress to the regional finals.
Commenting on the success of the tournaments, Basketball Wales COO, Gavin Williams, said:
