POWYS SCHOOLS BASKETBALL COMPETITIONS SHOWCASE GROWING TALENT ACROSS MID WALES 

Schools across Powys have been busy on court this month, as both North and South Powys have delivered a series of competitive, well-attended basketball fixtures for pupils from Years 7 through to 13.

North Powys- Years 9 and 10 boys ( 7th November)

The North Powys competition took place on 7 November at Bro Ddyfi Leisure Centre, bringing together teams from Bro Hyddgen and Llanidloes High School. Welshpool emerged as the overall winners.  

Sport Powys continues to play a key role in supporting basketball development in the region. Alongside their work delivering school competitions, they have also promoted Basketball Wales’ Red Whistle campaign, with four newly trained referees now supporting officiating across Powys.

South Powys- Years 7 and 8 (5th November)

The South Powys competition for Years 7 and 8 was held on 5 November at Brecon Leisure Centre, in partnership with Brecon High School, with several schools participating.

South Powys – Years 11 to 12 (12 November)

The senior competition for Years 11 to 13 took place on 12 November, also in South Powys. Crick Howell 1 claimed the win, followed by Ysgol Calon Cymru and Crick Howell 2.

Basketball Wales would like to acknowledge the fantastic work of Sport Powys, whose continued commitment is ensuring that pupils across Powys have regular opportunities to play, develop, and enjoy basketball. Their support is helping to grow participation and strengthen the foundations of the sport in Mid Wales.
