New Officials Boost Swansea Storm Basketball Thanks to Sport Wales Grant

Swansea Storm Basketball Club has taken a significant step in growing its officiating workforce, with 18 new Level 1 table officials and 12 new Level 1 referees recently qualifying. This achievement has been made possible thanks to a Sport Wales Be Active Wales Grant, which has enabled the club to offer these courses free of charge to all candidates.

The grant has been instrumental in increasing the number of qualified officials within the club to meet the growing demand for league games. With an ever-expanding schedule, the need for trained referees and table officials has never been greater.

Swansea Storm Chairman, Dan Garlick, expressed his enthusiasm about the development, stating:

“We’re really pleased to be able to grow the officiating workforce in the club. All these new table officials and referees are needed to support the number of games we play on a weekly basis, both within our club and across Swansea and the surrounding areas. We’d like to thank Sport Wales for this grant and would encourage other basketball clubs across Wales to apply, as the process is very straightforward.”

This initiative not only strengthens Swansea Storm’s capacity to host games but also ensures that basketball in the region continues to thrive with well-trained officials supporting the sport’s development.
