Wales U17 v Zalgiris U17

Wales U17 Open with Impressive Win Over Žalgiris
Wales U17 made a strong start with an 88–76 victory over Žalgiris, delivering a composed and well-rounded performance built on defensive pressure, rebounding, and shared scoring.
From the opening stages, Wales set the tone with their intensity on the defensive end. By forcing 23 turnovers, they disrupted Žalgiris’ rhythm and created valuable scoring opportunities, turning defensive stops into points and maintaining control of the game throughout. Žalgiris found it difficult to establish consistency, particularly from the perimeter, where they struggled to convert, limiting their ability to close the gap.
Wales’ control of the boards was another key factor. Winning the rebounding battle 66–57, they limited second-chance opportunities for their opponents while giving themselves additional possessions. Their work on the offensive glass proved especially valuable, helping them maintain pressure and extend their lead at key moments.
Offensively, Wales showed good balance, with contributions coming from across the roster. Max Marchant and Iolo Rhys both led the scoring with 13 points, with Rhys providing a strong impact off the bench. Michael Wells added 12 points and six assists, helping to control the tempo, while W. Morgan contributed a solid all-around performance, including nine rebounds. The bench played an important role overall, contributing 35 points and highlighting the depth within the squad.
Wales maintained their advantage throughout much of the game, building a lead of up to 12 points and responding well whenever Žalgiris threatened to shift momentum. Their ability to score inside, finishing with 50 points in the paint, ensured they remained in control across all four quarters.
Overall, it was an encouraging display from Wales U17, combining defensive intensity, strong rebounding, and balanced scoring to secure a deserved opening win.
