Wales U17 Girls v Sostines KM U17 Girls

Wales U17 Girls Fall to Sostinės KM in Kaunas
Wales U17 were defeated 66–51 by Sostinės KM in their opening fixture of their Lithuanian camp, with the hosts producing a consistent performance across four quarters.
The game began with both teams competing evenly, and Wales showed positive intent in transition. Robyn Donnelly led the early scoring and finished as Wales’ top scorer with 13 points on efficient shooting. However, as the game progressed, Sostinės KM began to settle and apply defensive pressure that disrupted Wales’ rhythm.
Turnovers proved to be a key factor in the contest. Wales found it difficult at times to retain possession, which limited their ability to build momentum offensively. Sostinės KM capitalised on these situations and were able to convert them into points at important stages of the game.
Sostinės KM shared scoring responsibility effectively. J. Žiliūtė led all scorers with 25 points, while A. Supranavičiūtė added 18 points and 11 rebounds. P. Povilėnaitė also contributed across the board with 13 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists.
Wales found scoring more difficult overall, shooting 28% from the field and making one three-point field goal. Despite this, there were encouraging signs, particularly in their ability to create fast break opportunities, finishing with 20 points in transition.
A positive for Wales came in the second half, where they responded well and outscored their opponents, showing improved composure and energy on both ends of the floor. The team’s effort remained strong throughout, and they continued to compete despite the deficit.
There were also solid contributions from across the squad. Emily Fulford added 7 points and 4 assists from the bench, while Chloe Hall contributed 8 points and showed determination in getting to the free-throw line. Wales also matched Sostinės KM on the boards, highlighting their work rate and physicality.
The second half performance will provide encouragement for the group as they continue to develop and prepare for upcoming fixtures over the next four days.
