Cougars win the 2026 BWNL Shield Final
At Bangor University, the Kenfig Cougars secured an 86–80 victory over Mold Magic in a competitive contest.
The Cougars made a strong start and led for much of the game, building a lead that stretched to 22 points at its largest. Mold Magic responded well throughout, reducing the deficit late on, but were unable to complete the comeback. From long range, the sides were evenly matched, with the Cougars converting 7 three-pointers to Mold’s 6.
Kenfig established control early, finishing the first quarter 26–19, with Ben Merchant scoring 10 points. For Mold, Julian Loste and Joe Robinson each added 4 points to keep the game within reach.
The second quarter saw Mold Magic improve, with Loste contributing a further 10 points. Despite this, the Cougars maintained their advantage, taking a 45–36 lead into halftime.
In the third period, Kenfig extended their lead with a strong run, pushing the score to 58–48. Merchant continued to influence the game, adding 8 more points, while Loste remained a key contributor for the home side.
Mold Magic produced a strong response in the final quarter, scoring 32 points, led by Matt Majewski-Zelek, who added 10 points in the period. However, the Cougars held their composure to see out the game.
Merchant led all scorers with 30 points, while Aaron Jones recorded a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds.
The final score of 86–80 reflected a game in which Kenfig Cougars controlled key periods, despite a late push from Mold Magic.
