Lithuania Calling for Basketball Wales Academy Players
Over the Easter holiday period, Basketball Wales’ U15 and U17 boys’ and girls’ academy squads will be travelling to Kaunas, Lithuania, for an exciting five-day training camp.
During the first week of the Easter holidays, the boys’ squads will travel to Lithuania, followed by the girls’ squads, who will make the trip in the second week.
The camp will include a series of daily training sessions, as well as competitive games against local and regional teams, providing players with a valuable opportunity to test themselves in a high-performance international environment.
Planning for this trip began in November 2025, when a delegation from the Lithuanian Basketball Federation, including President Mindaugas Balčiūnas, visited Cardiff. During their visit, they met with members of the Basketball Wales board and staff, including Chair Mr Garmon Rhys, and signed a memorandum of cooperation.
This agreement established a framework for practical collaboration in basketball development between the Lithuanian Basketball Federation and Basketball Wales, focusing on youth player development, coach education, and the delivery of basketball development projects in both Lithuania and Wales.
Basketball Wales is very pleased to be working closely with the Lithuanian Basketball Federation, with whom this partnership will support the continued development of national team players, coaches, and officials over the coming years.
Basketball Wales would also like to thank Cardiff Met Archers and Mr Jonas Vainauskas, who were instrumental in bringing this collaboration agreement to fruition.
Speaking ahead of the trip to Kaunas, Basketball Wales Head of Performance and Coaching Ryan Chambers said:

This trip for our academy players represents the start of what we believe will be a great long-term partnership. Lithuania has a strong and proud tradition of developing world-class players, coaches, and officials, and this partnership will help raise the long-term standards of the sport here in Wales.”
This experience represents another important step in providing meaningful development opportunities for young Welsh players, both on and off the court.
