Jr. NBA Girls’ Finals Held in Aberystwyth as Top Welsh Schools Compete

Houston Rockets Crowned 2025 Jr. NBA Girls’ Champions

Twelve secondary schools from across Wales gathered in Aberystwyth for the 2025 Jr. NBA Girls’ Finals, with each school representing an official NBA franchise.

After a full day of fixtures, including group games, classification rounds and final matchups, Middleton College (Houston Rockets) were crowned champions following a 15–10 win over Ysgol Penglais (LA Lakers) in the final. Bishop Vaughan Comprehensive (New York Knicks) secured third place with a 32–7 victory over Ysgol Gyfun Gymunedol Penweddig (1) (Sacramento Kings).

Participating Teams

The competition featured a range of closely contested matches, with players demonstrating teamwork, focus and composure under pressure. Supporters and families in attendance were able to follow the day’s fixtures both in person and via the online live stream.

MVP Recognition

Basketball Wales would like to congratulate the two standout players recognised as Most Valuable Players (MVPs) of the day:

• Matilda – Middleton College (Houston Rockets)
• Florence – Ysgol Penglais (LA Lakers)

Both players were instrumental in leading their teams through high-pressure matches with composure and impact, and coaches and officials recognised their performances throughout the day.

Final Standings

Looking ahead, tomorrow’s programme includes the Jr. NBA Wheelchair Basketball Tournament, continuing the Jr. NBA’s focus on inclusive opportunities for young people across Wales to participate in the sport.
