Basketball Wales has launched its Strategic Plan 2024-2030 to guide and grow the game across Wales. The strategy sets out our ambition under 5 key pillars: Equality Diversity and Inclusion (EDI), Community and Partnerships, Structured Game, Performance and Basketball Wales’ role as Governing Body. The EDI strand is divided into phases: the Pivot Phase (through to 2027) and the Drive Phase (to 2030). You can read the full strategy here:

We now seek new members for our Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) Committee. Your voice and expertise will help shape how we deliver the EDI part of our strategy. You will also help guide the Moving to Inclusion Framework, support our ongoing Insport Award work, and act as a critical friend to both the Board of Directors and Basketball Wales staff and make Basketball Wales a great place to work.
Role Description: EDI Committee Member
Type of role: Volunteer
Duration: Initial term with expectation to serve through the Pivot Phase (2025-2027)
Meetings: Regular meetings (estimated 4-6 per year), plus occasional subgroups or event-based activity; format may be virtual or in person
What you will do
- Contribute to setting EDI priorities for Basketball Wales, particularly during the Pivot Phase (to 2027) and in preparing for the Drive Phase to 2030.
- Help us apply the Moving to Inclusion Framework so that our policies, practices and culture reflect inclusive values.
- Support the Insport Award process, including reviews and action planning.
- Act as a critical friend: provide constructive feedback, challenge where needed, and offer fresh perspectives to both staff and Board.
- Bring lived experience, or subject matter expertise, in equality, diversity and inclusion issues especially with underrepresented or underserved groups in sport.
- Help us engage with diverse communities across Wales, breaking down barriers to participation.
About you
We are particularly interested in people who:
- Have experience or strong interest in EDI work, community or voluntary sector, sport, or other settings that intersect with inclusion.
- Understand some of the barriers experienced by underrepresented populations in Wales (for example by race, gender, disability, socio-economic status, geography, or other characteristics).
- Are able to think strategically and constructively challenge current practices.
- Communicate clearly, work well in a team, but also independently.
- Are willing to commit time across meetings and follow-up tasks.
