THE ROLE OF THE BASKETBALL TABLE OFFICIAL
For a basketball game to take place, there needs to be either two, three, or four table officials. Table officials are located near the sideline at the centre of the court and are responsible for controlling the game clock, shot clock, points scored, fouls committed, and more. They work together with the referees and the statisticians to ensure the fairness and accuracy of the game.
Basketball Wales Table Officials Fees
The BW Officiating Committee has confirmed the fees and expenses that licensed Basketball Wales officials should charge from 1st September 2026.
Below is a breakdown of the new structure and approach. All licensed Basketball Wales table officials are encouraged to adopt this payment structure.
It is based on local leagues across the UK and aimed at bringing us in line with our home nations colleagues, and encourages a development pathway for our table officials.

Level 4 Table Official – £16
Level 3 Table Official – £14
Level 2 Table Official – £13
Level 1 Table Official – £12
BWNL Table Official – £18
Junior Games – £12
Travel expenses £0.40 per mile

TABLE OFFICIAL LEVEL 1
Provides an introduction for complete beginners to start their table officiating journey. This online course gives an insight to the basic work of a timer and scorer.
TABLE OFFICIAL LEVEL 2
Building on the Level course or for those with good basketball knowledge already this online course provides deeper learning of the roles of the timer and scorer.
TABLE OFFICIAL LEVEL 3
In depth course for those who have completed the Level 2 and have been operating as a table official at local, regional and national level. This course provides insight into the role of the 24 second shot clock operator.
TABLE OFFICIAL LEVEL 4
Aimed at those who want to table officiate at the highest domestic level in Great Britain (Including the professional leagues). This course spans the duration of a full season.
