Four Welsh Players Awarded Summer Scholarships to Combine Academy
Basketball Wales is delighted to announce that, through our partnership with Combine Academy, four Basketball Wales players have been awarded full scholarships to attend the Elite Summer Exposure Programme in North Carolina from 29th June to 27 July 2026.
The selected players are:
🏀 Jacob Smith
🏀 Mathew Hughes
🏀 Max Marchant
🏀 Will Morgan
The four week programme will see the players immersed in a high-performance environment, where they will train with elite coaches, compete against top-level talent and experience life as student-athletes at one of the USA’s leading basketball academies.
Ryan Chambers, Performance Manager at Basketball Wales, said:

The standard across the entire group has been excellent, and selecting players for this opportunity was far from straightforward. Every athlete in the programme has demonstrated a strong commitment to their development and represented Basketball Wales with enthusiasm and professionalism. For these four players, we believe the experience offered by Combine Academy aligns particularly well with their current stage of development and provides a unique opportunity to accelerate their growth both on and off the court.
Attending a high-performance environment such as Combine Academy will expose them to new coaching perspectives, elite training standards and experiences that will stay with them for years to come. We are excited to see how they embrace the challenge and are confident that the knowledge, habits and experiences they gain will have a positive impact not only on their performances with Basketball Wales, but also within their club environments and wider basketball journeys.”
