Welsh Players Represent Great Britain at the 13th FIMBA Maxibasketball World Championships

Basketball Wales would like to congratulate all of the Welsh players who proudly represented their Great Britain Masters teams at the 13th FIMBA Maxibasketball World Championships, held in Athens, Greece, last week.

The championships brought together thousands of players from across the globe in a celebration of lifelong participation in basketball, with athletes competing across a wide range of age categories in one of the sport’s premier Masters events.

We are incredibly proud that so many members of the Welsh basketball community were selected to represent Great Britain on the world stage. Their selection is a testament to their continued dedication to the game and their passion for competing at the highest level.

The FIMBA Maxibasketball World Championships celebrate the belief that basketball is a sport for life. Bringing together players from around the world, the event showcases not only high-quality competition but also the friendships, camaraderie and lifelong passion that make our sport so special.

“It’s great to see so many players from across Wales selected to represent Great Britain Masters squads in Athens.

Basketball Wales’ strategy is committed to creating more opportunities for Masters Basketball, which has already seen Wales teams participate in the Masters Tri Nations and, more recently, field teams in the GB Masters Tournament held in Cardiff.

This year, Wales entered men’s and women’s teams in the 40+ age categories, but we’re already looking to expand into the 50+ categories for next year’s tournament, which will take place in West Sussex.

In addition to this, we have ambitions of entering Wales teams into the new FIBA Masters Open Tournament in future years. It’s an exciting time for Masters Basketball in Wales, and we’re committed to providing more opportunities for players to continue representing their country throughout their basketball journey.”

The continued growth of Masters Basketball reflects Basketball Wales’ commitment to providing opportunities for players at every stage of their basketball journey. As participation continues to grow, Masters competitions offer athletes the chance to remain active, compete at a high level and continue representing Wales and Great Britain on the international stage.

Basketball Wales would also like to congratulate each player on their selection and thank them for being outstanding ambassadors for Welsh basketball while representing their Great Britain Masters teams in Athens.

We hope everyone had a fantastic tournament and look forward to seeing our Masters programme continue to grow, creating even more opportunities for players to represent Wales in the years ahead.
