Richard Stokes to Present at Basketball Wales’ Online Officiating Clinic
Basketball Wales is excited to announce that Richard Stokes will deliver two key sessions at the upcoming online officiating clinic.
Richard, who began his refereeing career at 18, qualified as a national referee in England by age 20 and became a FIBA referee in 1993. He has an extensive career, including officiating the first-ever Euro League game between Real Madrid and Olympiacos Piraeus in 2000 and working at the 2003 EuroBasket in Sweden.
In 2005, Richard joined the FIBA Europe Competitions and Referee Department, and by 2011, he was leading the department, overseeing the development and training of referees across Europe.
At the clinic, Richard will present on two key topics: Travelling a Unsportsmanlike Fouls. There will also be a presentation on the new FIBA rules changes and an update on the digital score sheet system, NBN23, introduced in several Basketball Wales competitions during the 2024/25 season.
