Nearly 100 Girls Attend Basketball Wales’ Her World, Her Rules Event

On 18 April 2026, Basketball Wales, in partnership with Cardiff Met Archers, hosted its annual FIBA Her World, Her Rules girls’ basketball event.

Nearly 100 girls from across Wales attended the event, enjoying a fun-filled day designed to celebrate basketball, sport, health, positive experiences and wellbeing.

The event also continued the celebration of International Women’s Day, recognising the importance of creating opportunities for girls and women to participate, develop and thrive in sport.

Throughout the day, participants took part in a range of basketball sessions and activities that promoted physical activity, teamwork, confidence and wellbeing. The event provided a welcoming and supportive environment in which the girls could develop their skills, meet new people and enjoy the game.

The girls were coached and mentored by several professional Cardiff Met Archers Super League Basketball players. The players shared their basketball knowledge and experience while also offering valuable insight into life as professional female athletes. Their involvement gave the participants the opportunity to learn from inspiring role models who compete at an elite level.

Every girl who participated in the camp also received a complimentary FIBA Her World, Her Rules T-shirt as a keepsake from the day.

Commenting on the event, Elen Morris-Mullins from Cardiff Metropolitan University said:

“The 2026 edition of this event has been by far our biggest to date, with around 100 girls in attendance. It is one of my favourite events of the year. Seeing young girls from across Wales come together to have fun through the sport of basketball is always fantastic.

“We are already starting to plan the 2027 event, details of which will be shared across the Cardiff Met Archers and Basketball Wales social media channels soon.”

Her World, Her Rules is a FIBA initiative that aims to introduce more girls to basketball and inspire them to remain involved in the sport. Events such as this play an important role in making basketball accessible, enjoyable and inclusive for girls across Wales.

Basketball Wales would like to thank FIBA for its ongoing funding and support, which help make this fantastic annual event possible. This continued investment enables more girls to experience basketball in a positive, welcoming and inspiring environment.

We would also like to thank Cardiff Met Archers and their players for their continued partnership and support in delivering the event, along with everyone who helped make the day possible and all the participants who brought such fantastic energy and enthusiasm.

We look forward to continuing to provide opportunities for girls across Wales to discover basketball and become part of its growing community.
