Miami Heat Crowned Jr. NBA Wales ALN (Additional Learning Needs) Champions
The Junior NBA Wales ALN Finals brought together eight schools from across Wales for an exciting day of basketball, with pupils proudly representing their assigned NBA franchises in a competition full of teamwork, determination and sportsmanship.
Representing their schools and NBA teams were:
- Ysgol Penglais – Oklahoma City Thunder
- Ysgol Hendrefelin 2 – Philadelphia 76ers
- Ysgol Bro Pedr – Indiana Pacers
- Ysgol Glantaf – Boston Celtics
- Ysgol Aberteifi – Cleveland Cavaliers
- Ysgol Tir Morfa – Miami Heat
- Ysgol Penweddig – Los Angeles Clippers
- Ysgol Hendrefelin 1 – Dallas Mavericks
Strong Performances in the Group Stage
The opening rounds produced plenty of competitive basketball as teams battled for places in the knockout stages.
Mae'r Boston Celtics (Ysgol Glantaf) impressed throughout the group phase, recording victories over the Indiana Pacers (10-0), Philadelphia 76ers (9-4) and Oklahoma City Thunder (16-4) to secure a semi-final berth.
Mae'r Miami Heat (Ysgol Tir Morfa) also enjoyed an unbeaten group campaign, defeating the Cleveland Cavaliers (14-0) before overcoming both the Dallas Mavericks (9-14) and Los Angeles Clippers (14-4) to book their place in the last four.
Elsewhere, the Indiana Pacers (Ysgol Bro Pedr) bounced back from an opening defeat to record important wins over the Thunder (12-2) and 76ers (10-4), while the Los Angeles Clippers (Ysgol Penweddig) secured their semi-final place with victories over the Mavericks (6-0) and Cavaliers (18-8).
Knockout Stage
The semi-finals saw two dominant displays.
Mae'r Boston Celtics shut out the Los Angeles Clippers 14-0 to reach the championship game, while the Miami Heat produced another outstanding performance to defeat the Indiana Pacers 16-0.
The bronze medal game was a closely contested affair, with the Indiana Pacers edging past the Los Angeles Clippers 8-6 to claim third place.
Miami Heat Claim the Title
The championship game lived up to expectations as two unbeaten teams met for the title.
In a tense and hard-fought contest, the Miami Heat (Ysgol Tir Morfa) emerged victorious with a 6-3 win over the Boston Celtics (Ysgol Glantaf) to be crowned Junior NBA Wales ALN Champions.
Their defensive intensity and teamwork proved the difference as they completed an outstanding unbeaten tournament.

Celebrating Inclusive Basketball
The Junior NBA Wales ALN programme continues to provide young people with opportunities to develop basketball skills in an inclusive, supportive and enjoyable environment. The enthusiasm, teamwork and respect shown by every player throughout the day highlighted exactly what the programme is all about.
Basketball Wales would like to congratulate all of the players, teachers, officials and volunteers who helped make the event such a success, and a special congratulations to Ysgol Tir Morfa, who proudly lifted the Junior NBA Wales ALN Championship trophy.
