Keeping Your Child Safe in Sport Week is back between 06th to 12th October, 2025. Families across Wales are invited to actively participate in the campaign once again, just like in previous years and Basketball Wales is proud to support this initiative and empower parents with the knowledge and steps to take to ensure safety of their children within sport.

The campaign, is led by the Child Protection in Sports Unit (CPSU), provides various resources for parents and guardians available on the link below- https://thecpsu.org.uk/parents/keeping-your-child-safe-in-sport-2025-for-parents

A comprehensive guide for every parent and includes everything from on-field red flags to watch out for to the course of action you need to take.

Moreover, Basketball Wales is also playing its part to ensure child safety within its organisation and support the national campaign.

Basketball Wales is launching its new Pocket Safeguarding Guide, a clear, concise and compact guide encompassing all the necessary information for young players involved in our sport.

Guide

The new guide will be sent to all our affiliate clubs in the upcoming weeks to ensure our junior players and any new members who join the sport have the correct knowledge and information to stay safe within basketball.

Clubs will be sent enough copies of the guide to cover all their existing club members and will have a quantity of spares to cover any new players that join over the course of the season.

Expressing his thoughts on the national campaign and the role Basketball Wales is playing to support the initiative, Gavin Williams, COO of Basketball Wales said:

Basketball Wales is proud to support the NSPCC’s Keep Your Child Safe in Sport Week. We are committed to ensuring that basketball remains a fun, safe and enjoyable sport for everyone. In recent months we have launched various initiatives like the Red Whistle Campaign for young referees to promote and ensure public safety at our organisation. These initiatives reflect our commitment to safeguarding and supporting the wellbeing of everyone involved in Welsh Basketball.”
