Junior national team head coaches appointed

Basketball Wales has completed the head coach recruitment for its junior national teams programme for the 2023/24 season.

U19 Boys: Nick O’Leary

U19 Girls: Pentxo Cervantes

U17 Boys: Ieuan Alex Jones

U16 Boys: Antonio Wilburn

U17 Girls: Sam Bell

U15 Boys: Will Twigg

U15 Girls: Caitlyn Riley

U14 Boys: Neil Davies

Some of the appointments are familiar names, but there are several new faces.

Sam Bell is Canterbury Kings head coach and a former assistant coach with England U16 Girls.

Will Twigg has an array of experience in both the UK and USA, working with the London Lions, Essex Rebels, Newvic College and Cleveland Cavaliers.

Neil Davies led the U13 boys south regional programme last season, while Pentxo Cervantes served as assistant coach to the U17 Girls

Ieuan Alex Jones will combine his U17 Boys role with his position as senior women’s team head coach.

“It was a very competitive process and I am looking forward to working with this group of coaches,” said Performance Director Phil Gordos. “Congratulations to the successful candidates.”
