Cardiff Met Archers – 24 Hour Charity Game

The annual Cardiff Met Archers 24-hour charity game will return to the Archers Arena on 17th-18th May. The club are excited to be raising funds for two wonderful charities and invite all within the basketball community to come and join the fun. The event will see different age groups taking turns to play to ensure there is 24 hours of continuous basketball. All ages and all abilities are welcome, players and parents, and no level of experience is required! There are specific slots for the running and wheelchair game, as well as a session for Additional Learning Needs.
This is the first year that the Archers have selected young people as team captains. This is a privilege for those chosen and will see them taking responsibility for organising the event and operating teams on the day. They have been working very hard on the planning and are even hoping for the potential of securing a Guinness World Record. So please read a little more about them and follow how to get involved below:
A little about the captains:

Ethan Benningwood – A player within the Cardiff Met Archers U16 boys’ team, playing in Local and National League and a member of the Wales Development squad, with three Welsh caps achieved. Ethan is passionate about basketball and has been connected to the Cardiff Met Archers for 10 years. As well as playing, Ethan has been a volunteer coach within the juniors for the last 5 years and is an active level 2 table official.
Ethan’s chosen charity is the Youth Sport Trust, whose purpose is to ensure that every child can profit from the life-changing benefits of sport, to improve children and young people’s physical, mental and social wellbeing, through increasing levels of physical activity. Ethan has received many benefits from the Youth Sport Trust as part of his journey on their Young Ambassador programme. This has provided a sports leadership pathway since primary school and resulted in a position on the National Steering Group and becoming an alumni member of the programme. Ethan is excited to join his passion for the game with an opportunity to put his leadership learning into practice with this event.

Abigail Clifford – Abi is a player within the Cardiff Met Archers U18’s women’s team playing in National League as well as representing Wales over the past 3 years in the Four Nations competitions. Abi has been playing basketball for 8 year and along the way has become a volunteer junior coach, a level 2 table official and assists in recording stats for SLB games.
Abi has recently been selected as a Sports Ambassador in RCT through her college affiliation and TASS scholarship, so will be able to bring all that experience to support the event delivery.
Abi’s chosen charity is FND Hope, whose mission is to promote awareness and advance research for the prevention, treatment and recovery of Functional Neurological Disorder (FND). FND refers to neurological conditions caused by changes in how the brain works, rather than changes in the structure of the brain itself, and physical symptoms are genuine but cannot be explained by changes in the brain structure. This charity is especially important to Abi, as her dad has FND, and as a family, they live with the disability daily.
