Basketball Wales Announces Junior Academy Performance Dates for 2025/26
Basketball Wales is pleased to confirm the provisional dates for the 2025/26 Junior Academy cycle.
Following a review of last season’s programme, the Basketball Wales performance team has decided to remove the Development Squad element and focus on an expanded Academy programme for both boys and girls.
The Academy will bring together the best young basketball talent from across Wales (and beyond) to compete for places in the U14, U15, and U17 Wales National Teams.
Invitations & Nominations
All players involved in last year’s Development and Academy squads have already been contacted and invited to attend the first session on Sunday 7th September. If you have not yet received the invite please email – selaw.llabteksab@rotanidroocsmaet
In addition, Welsh club secretaries have today been sent a nomination form for coaches to propose new players for this year’s Academy intake.
– Nominations close: 5:00 PM on Wednesday 27th August
– Coaches are encouraged to propose only the most promising players (aged 13–17) who they believe can enhance the existing Academy cohort.
The Basketball Wales performance staff will review all club coach nominations and successful players will be informed directly by email on Tuesday 2nd September.

Venue: All sessions currently scheduled at Cardiff Met Archers Arena, dates and venues may be subject to change. If any changes have to be made Basketball Wales will endeavour to give as much notice as possible.

Additional North Wales Training Opportunities
Working in partnership with Sion Parry, Basketball Wales will also deliver extra training sessions for top-rated 13–17-year-old players based in North Wales.
– Locations will include Bangor, Wrexham, and Anglesey (subject to venue availability)

Home Nations Tournaments and Preparation Games
Preparation games and tournament dates in addition to the Home Country invitational tournaments are currently being finalised by will be announced shortly.

Newly appointed Head of Performance and Coaching Pathways Ryan Chambers said:
“I’m looking forward to working with the players, coaches, and team managers in the Academy system. This is the second year of the new Academy structure, and we’ll be making improvements and adjustments based on feedback from last year’s programme to ensure our players have the best possible environment to grow and develop.”
