Basketball Wales announces Gavin Williams as Interim CEO
Basketball Wales is pleased to announce the appointment of Gavin Williams as our new interim CEO for the next 12-month period.
The appointment of Gavin as Basketball Wales’s first full-time member of staff in over 12 years comes at a crucial time where the sport is looking to make significant strides in its growth and to capitalise on the very positive data received from the latest school sport survey.
The role of CEO is one that Gavin has been carrying out in a voluntary capacity in recent years but now as a full-time member of staff he will have the additional time and capacity needed to work with our key partners, including Sport Wales to take the governing body to the next stage in its development.
Working closely with Sport Wales over the last 12-month period the board of directors along with Helen Pearce our part time administrator has managed to double our grant funding investment for the next financial year as we look to continue the growth of the sport.
Speaking on the new appointment, Basketball Wales board director Ben Whitestone said:
“It’s great that Basketball Wales have been able to appoint a full-time member of staff, Gavin has a great deal of experience in the role already and his passion and enthusiasm for growing the game in Wales will help drive the sport forward in a positive direction, there are exciting times ahaead for basketball in Wales”
Speaking on his appointment as Interim CEO Gavin Williams said:
“I’d like to thank the board of directors for giving me the opportunity to take on this exciting new role. Over the next 12-month period I’m looking forward to working with and strengthening our relationships with key partners, clubs, and the membership to help drive the growth of the sport in Wales. The most recent school sport survey carried out by Sport Wales shows that there is a huge unmet demand by young people who are looking to try out the sport of basketball. One of my key priorities will be to work with the board and our new chair to develop a strategy and a vision that will allow us to maximise the funding that can be made available and to get more people playing basketball in Wales”
