Basketball Wales is pleased to announce that Elen Morris-Mullins will join its Board, while Duncan Mackenzie and Edward Potter have been shortlisted for the Elected Director position that will now be decided by a vote of member clubs.

Following an open application process, Basketball Wales received a strong field of candidates interested in supporting the future development and governance of the sport in Wales.

Each application was carefully reviewed through a formal shortlisting process. This considered candidates’ experience, their understanding of Welsh basketball and the different skills and perspectives they could bring to Basketball Wales as the National Governing Body.

Basketball Wales would like to thank everyone who applied. The quality of the applications demonstrated the passion, knowledge and commitment that exists across the Welsh basketball community.

Elen Morris-Mullins joins the Board

Following the application process, Basketball Wales is pleased to confirm that Elen Morris-Mullins will join its Board. Elen represents Tribal Basketball, where she coaches, manages a team and supports the club with her safeguarding experience.

Elen is a former Welsh international who progressed through the Wales junior pathway before playing senior women’s basketball. She brings considerable experience and a strong understanding of the women’s and girls’ game. Elen will support the strategic development of Basketball Wales, with a particular focus on creating opportunities and increasing participation among women and girls.

Elen’s appointment further strengthens Basketball Wales’ commitment to achieving gender parity across its Board and ensuring its leadership reflects the communities it serves. This supports the principles of inclusive and representative leadership promoted through Arwain Cymru: A Governance and People Development Framework, alongside Basketball Wales’ wider equality, diversity and inclusion priorities.

As a fluent Welsh speaker, Elen will also support Basketball Wales’ commitment to ensuring that its opportunities, communications and engagement are accessible to Welsh-speaking communities.

Through its Board recruitment and succession planning, Basketball Wales remains committed to developing a diverse, skilled and balanced leadership team.

Basketball Wales looks forward to working with Elen and benefiting from her experience, knowledge and passion for developing the game.

Member clubs to vote for Elected Director

Following the shortlisting process, Duncan Mackenzie and Edward Potter will progress to a vote of Basketball Wales’ member clubs.

Clubs will receive each candidate’s CV and accompanying statement, enabling them to consider the skills and experience of both candidates before voting for the person they wish to represent them on the Basketball Wales Board.

This member-led process ensures that affiliated clubs have a direct voice in deciding who represents their interests at Board level.

The successful Elected Director candidate will be announced at the Basketball Wales Annual General Meeting on Saturday 26 September 2026.

Basketball Wales wishes Duncan and Edward the very best during the next stage of the process.

All affiliated clubs (via club secretaries) will receive an electronic voting form by email no later than 5:00 p.m. on Friday 18 September. Clubs will have until Friday 25 September to cast their vote for their preferred candidate.

The candidate who receives the most votes from member clubs will be announced at the AGM on Saturday 26 September.
