Cardiff to Host an Inclusive Basketball Event: DOSportUK x SOGB Basketball Series
Basketball fans are in for a treat as the DOSportUK x Special Olympics Great Britain (SOGB) Basketball Series comes to Cardiff Met Archers Arena this Sunday. The event promises a thrilling day of high-energy and inclusive basketball, bringing together teams from across the UK and Ireland for an unforgettable competition.
DOSportUK, a dedicated organisation providing regular basketball opportunities for individuals with learning disabilities and/or autism, is thrilled to collaborate with Special Olympics Great Britain on this fantastic series of events. UPS, the primary sponsor, plays a key role in making these opportunities possible, ensuring that players can experience the joy of competition and camaraderie.
This exciting event welcomes teams from a range of locations, including Greater Manchester, London, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Worcestershire, Powys, and Killester. Players will compete in two divisions, each offering intense matchups and a platform for athletes to showcase their skills.
One of the standout competitions of the day will be the ‘Tri Nations’ division, where teams representing Wales, England, and Ireland will battle it out in a series of fixtures, adding a unique international flavour to the tournament. Meanwhile, a five-team group featuring squads from across the UK will go head-to-head, aiming to emerge victorious in this latest instalment of the basketball series.

“The two Welsh squads competing in the event are really excited to welcome teams from across Ireland and England to Cardiff. Our Powys squad will be participating in Division ‘B’ competition with teams from Greater Manchester, London, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Worcestershire, whilst our Division ‘A’ Wales squad will be competing in a tri-nations event, a great opportunity for the players to step into an international arena for the first time. The squads have a proud history within these competitions and no doubt will be looking to do their very best again this Sunday. Equally, it’s a great chance for the players to enjoy time together, embrace the fantastic spirit of these events and make new friends from England and Ireland along the way.
Beyond the competition, this event is about celebrating inclusion, sportsmanship, and the power of sport to bring people together. DOSportUK continues to make a significant impact in the basketball community by creating accessible opportunities for players with learning disabilities and autism to participate, compete, and thrive in a welcoming environment.
