Cardiff Met Archers Deliver Half-Term Basketball Camps Across Wales

As part of a partnership between Basketball Wales and Cardiff Met Archers to increase participation among women and girls, a series of basketball camps has been delivered across Wales during recent school holidays.

During the October half-term, Cardiff Met Archers ran girls’ basketball camps in Aberystwyth, Wrexham, Pembrokeshire and Cardiff. The sessions were well attended and formed part of ongoing efforts to encourage more girls to take up the sport across Wales in line with Basketball Wales’ strategy to grow the women’s and girls’ game.

Building on this momentum, Cardiff Met Archers delivered another series of girls’ basketball camps across Wales during the February half-term break, providing young players with opportunities to develop their skills, meet new teammates and learn from experienced coaches and players.

Camps took place in Llanelli, Pembrokeshire, Brecon, Cardiff and Bangor, with sessions led by Archer’s coaches and SLB performance players. Across the five locations, a total of 161 participants attended the camps throughout the week.

The camps focused on developing fundamental basketball skills while fostering a positive, welcoming environment for players of all abilities. The Cardiff camp also included a session delivered by Guardian Ballers, who provided an additional wellbeing workshop to complement the on-court activities.

Caitlyn Riley, who led the camps in Pembrokeshire and Cardiff, said:

“I thoroughly enjoyed leading the camps in Pembrokeshire and Cardiff. Numbers were brilliant in Cardiff, and the players brought great energy, making it a fantastic environment to coach in. A big thank you to our performance players for their delivery and engagement, and to Guardian Ballers for delivering an additional wellbeing session that really complemented the on-court work.”

Players attending the camps also shared positive feedback about their experience.

Emilia Williams, who attended multiple camps during the week, said:

“I really enjoyed attending the Cardiff Met Archers Girls Basketball Camps this half term. I went to three different camps — Llanelli on Monday, Brecon on Tuesday and Cardiff on Thursday. It was a good chance to meet new people and get the chance to be coached by the Archer’s American professional women players. It was really good fun, and I hope there are more during the next school holidays.”
