Basketball Wales Welcomes Alan Gbel as Mid Wales Participation & Inclusion Officer
Basketball Wales is delighted to announce the appointment of Alan Gbel as its new Mid Wales Participation & Inclusion Officer.
Alan joins Basketball Wales with a wealth of experience both within the sport and the wider community. A passionate advocate for basketball in Mid Wales, Alan has been involved in the game for more than 30 years as a player, volunteer and supporter, making him ideally placed to help drive participation and inclusion across the region.
Having represented Aberystwyth Basketball Club at all levels, Alan remains actively involved in the sport and has recently been selected to represent the Wales Masters Team at the upcoming GB Masters Basketball Event.
Away from the court, Alan has spent the last 17 years working as a Nursery Manager, developing extensive experience in leadership, community engagement and supporting people of all ages to reach their potential.
As Mid Wales Participation & Inclusion Officer, Alan will focus on increasing opportunities to play basketball across Powys and Ceredigion, supporting clubs, schools and community organisations to develop sustainable programmes and ensuring that basketball is accessible to people from all backgrounds.
Speaking about his appointment, Alan said:
“I’m really happy to be joining Basketball Wales and taking on the role of Participation and Inclusion Officer for Mid Wales. I have been volunteering with basketball in Mid Wales for the past 30 years and have seen first hand the great work Basketball Wales does.
I have played for Aberystwyth Basketball Club at all levels and am really excited at the moment to be selected for the Wales Masters team to play at the upcoming GB Masters event.
Having worked as a nursery manager for the past 17 years, I’m very excited for this new change in career. I’m delighted to be joining the team and to be given the opportunity to boost participation in a region I am passionate about.
Covering a large rural area across Powys and Ceredigion, I’m excited to be able to bring the sport I love to places that may not have had the same opportunities to play as I did and to show what a great game it is.”

The creation of the Mid Wales Participation & Inclusion Officer role forms part of Basketball Wales’ ongoing commitment to increasing participation, improving accessibility and strengthening basketball communities across all regions of Wales.
