Antidoping post

As part of our commitment to fair play, Basketball Wales wishes to highlight the recent release of the 2025 Prohibited List by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). This list, taking effect on 1 January 2025, outlines substances and methods banned in sports competitions. The annual update guides athletes, coaches, and support staff, offering insights into prohibited substances and methods.
The 2025 Prohibited List is comprehensive, addressing familiar and emerging substances and methods to ensure the integrity of sports at all levels. Key categories include
– Stimulants
– Hormone modulators, and
– Narcotics
Each is selected to protect athletes from substances known to enhance performance unfairly or cause health risks. Updates include the addition of new hormone modulators due to potential misuse and the removal of substances that pose limited health risks in a sports context.
Athletes and personnel are encouraged to consult the WADA document regularly, as unintentional violations can severely affect competitive eligibility.
The Prohibited List also includes guidelines on prohibited methods, such as blood doping and genetic manipulation. By understanding these regulations, athletes can make informed choices regarding their health and competition practices.
Basketball Wales is committed to promoting clean sport in our community, supporting WADA’s mission, and ensuring players have the knowledge to compete fairly. All players involved in the Basketball Wales academy and development programmes for 2024/25 will receive educational training from UKAD tutors to help raise awareness of anti-doping guides and procedures. This will be carried out as part of off-court training during the season.
