Wales is a small country and to increase the interest, participation and competitive standards in basketball and to renew old rivalries, a new national league has been agreed.

Aims of the new league
- To align Wales with England and Scotland who both run national leagues
- To build, over time, an elite league in Wales.
- Create a stepping stone between local leagues and the Wales national teams.
Overview of the new league
In the first season (2021/22) the aim would be to have a maximum of 8 men’s teams from across Wales.
- Games will be played on a Sunday at 4 venues across Wales.
- All players must have a Basketball Wales licence.
- All clubs must be registered with Basketball Wales.
- Teams can only have a maximum of 5 players registered to play in the England National Basketball League (NBL). (Players would need to be submitted to the committee for approval).
- Clubs who enter a team must also continue to play in the South Wales (SWBA) or North Wales (NWBA) league.
- Each home team club must be able to provide Basketball Wales registered Level 2 table officials.
- Referees will be appointed centrally by the league.
- Each home team club must broadcast the game via the league approved streaming platform and provide stats at the games.
