Basketball Wales Launches National Academy and Development Programmes and Integrates Athlete Management System

Following the launch of the National Academy schedule for the 2024/25 season, Basketball Wales is thrilled to embark on a year of focused development, providing new opportunities for young basketball talent nationwide. Over the past few weeks, National Academy and development sessions have been running for both boys and girls, led by our Performance Programme Manager, Danny Williams.
In an exciting step forward, Basketball Wales will partner with Sport Wales to integrate cutting-edge athlete management and development technology, Smartabase, into our pathway programmes. This collaboration will support coaches, staff, and athletes by embedding Athlete Management Systems (AMS) to optimise training, boost engagement, and help players reach their full potential.
Since 2022, Sport Wales has successfully integrated Smartabase into its operations to enhance athlete development across pathway and performance programmes. This advanced platform has enabled comprehensive projects across the system, including Electronic Medical Records (EMR), injury and illness surveillance, and initiatives focused on the health and well-being of female athletes.
Dan Farmer, Performance Adviser at Sport Wales, shared his enthusiasm for AMS integration within the Basketball Wales performance programme:
